Khaki Stretch

Windows XP Desktop displays column on Left Hand Side?

When my mouse pointer moves to the Left Hand Side of my desktop display, a khaki column pops out listing all the folders in the “My documents” folder. How do I make this disappear? I can stretch it over half the screen but can’t make it go away?
I’m using an Acer laptop computer: does that have any significance?

Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be a way to fix that unless you wipe your machine clean and start from scratch.
