Is there a distinction between the Harajuku style in Japan and the Harajuku style created Gwen Stefani?

I ask because lately, a lot of what I see at Macy's and Metro Park Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Lovers dolls and clothes, and I wonder if it different from the clothing and accessories in Japan. For example, the articles are here in America Harajuku, the same as in Japan, others only in a store?

Japan's Harajuku is a lot crazier and cute. nothing fits at all, theres hundreds of layers, its really not what anyone would call it fashionable, but it is. [If that made sense.] Gwen Stefani's Harajuku is 10x more conservative and I guess you would say "peace" in the form of American-ested and the colors are not so crazy. theres usually like a shirt there [in which the Japanese Harajuku like 2 dresses, vests, tank tops, neon colors, etcetc is.]
