Why is it socially acceptable for women to dress like men, but not for men, women dress like?

Just ask. After all, it was only relatively recently that it was women's pants, suits to wear for socially acceptable to, and other clothing for men in general set aside, but why do we give a man looks funny when going outside wearing a dress or even a kilt? I'm not saying I'm not one of the people who would look twice a man in a dress, I wonder why I so we think.
