Blue Velvet

I make a blue velvet cake but can not find blue food coloring. Can I glaze blue gel instead?

btw, I have been saved to a few, and no, it's not available in any store anywhere. That is why I'm here posting. Michaels (at least for me) it does not even wear. But thanks for the ideas that gel icing will not work. I will try to purchase some online.
